Post Production & Beyond
SMiley Faces
“Beautifully edited – if there’s better editing on the module, I will be surprised.”
A short created on a ‘microbudget’ inspired by the likes of Ken Loach and Andrea Arnold. Smiley Faces is a short film (c. 15) written and produced in just under six months. Written and co-directed by Harvey Ryan and Chloe Crocker, with acting by Chloe Crocker, Vicky Sharples and Tessa Taylor and post-production work by myself and Quinn James. The film has been selected for showing at Margate Film Festival 2025.
Taking a leading role in the post production from the outset, I made my mark on this project throughout its entire development (even coming up with the title). I was in charge of organising the fundraising for the project, in the end we raised £300 which covered our expenses and allowed us to realise our shared vision. I also liased with Kent Film Office and Thanet District Council to secure filming permits and complete the necessary paperwork to allow us to film on location in Margate.
Edited on Adobe Premiere Pro, I worked on the two main dialogue scenes around which the film is centered. Throughout the enite post production process, I worked closely with the production team, and my co-editor, to ensure the realisation of our shared vision for the film.
KMTV
I was brought on as a Student Intern at KMTV, an OFCOM regulated local TV station in the Kent area throughout my third year of University. In this role, I worked with the news team throughout the day, creating content for the live broadcasts in the evening. During this internship, I assisted with the writing, filming and editing of this content, working with a team effectively in the limited time available before the evening broadcasts.
I utilised Final Cut Pro X on their in-house Mac editing suites to assist the full-time employees. This ranged from putting together overlays for a piece to camera or pre-recorded package, to full three minute packages on a wide range of topics, which were then shown live on their evening broadcasts. As KMTV was regulated by OFCOM, the work we produced had to be stringently put together, so as to not break any rules and regulations put in place. Through this, I have developed a thorough and careful mindset when it comes to producing and editing content.
Some personal highlights of this internship were:
Assisting the reporting of the 2024 local and general elections in Kent. This included travelling to the vote counts in Maidstone and Sittingbourne respectively. At these counts, I assisted in interviewing candidates, filming live updates as the count progressed and collecting 'B-roll' footage to be used in edited content.
Being on the editorial team for the student led show 'Kent Student 101'. In this role, in a team of four editors, we oversaw the planning, production and post production of the content for this show, with a group of nearly 20 working with us to produce weekly episodes over a 10 week timeframe.
Stephen Spender Trust
I have been working with the Stephen Spender Trust as a freelance video editor in recent months. Starting in November, I was the lead editor and content producer for their 2025 Award Celebration.
In this role, I coordinated with the trust via email, and edited montage and testimonial videos which highlighted the many talented poets and translators who were selected for the Prize.
This project required high detail in file organisation and in checking for inconsistencies throughout the content produced, ensuring a professional final product.
Local Legends
“Local Legends is a personal passion project of mine, it’s all about telling the history of my local area”
Made with a shoestring budget and a lot of heart, I strived to make this series as a way to test myself during my job search post-grad and as a way to continue adding to my portfolio while making enjoyable content for a good cause.
The creative process of making an episode of Local Legends begins with a lot of research, gaining relevant filming permits and planning exactly what I want to achieve in the 3-5 minute timeframe.
A core philosohy I had was producing the content, was showing that professional equipment isn't needed to tell a story. Aiming to make up for this lack of budget with high quality, professional post-production, which weaves the story together in an easy to understand and entertaining manner.
